Homework 01

1. Recall the 3-by-3 table we did in class that categorized problems
by whether the time or space was discrete, continuous, or nonexistent.
Come up with new examples for at least 4 of the cells in the table.
Describe each an example with at least a paragraph.

2.  Tell me about yourself--major, past jobs, current jobs, future jobs,
hobbies, etc.
Also, how comfortable are you with probability at the Math 360 level?

3.  Describe some ideas you have for your class projects.  Use at least
a sentence or two for each.  If you can't think of any right now, that's
okay.

4. Suppose a company makes a flu vaccine that costs them $5/dose, and they sell
it for $12/dose (wholesale).  Any vaccine that isn't used this year is worthless
at the end of the year.  In 4 out of 5 years, demand is 30 million doses.  But
in that 1 other year out of 5 years, there's a panic and demand is 200 million
doses.  They have to decide how much to produce before the demand is known.
How many doses should they produce?
